This past week, I wrote my first research assessment of the 2021 year, regarding an article on various effects that common popular baseball exercises have on pitchers, such as flat-grounds (self-explanatory, pitching on flat ground instead of a mound) and weighted baseballs (conveniently also self-explanatory). While I was writing this assessment, rather than having a direct takeaway from the data, I had other notions that struck me. I thought about how these exercises have been passed down to generations of pitchers over time, and why misconceptions such as some of the benefits of flat-grounds have persisted for such a long period of time. It led me to a realization of such a basic principle of people: persuasion comes first. In order for people to enjoy their field, there has to be an element, whether through another person or event in their life, that brings about that passion. With my upcoming speech on my original work occurring in the next two weeks, I realize that I need to prioritize bringing people into interest before I can dive deeper into the analysis of what I have been doing. Ultimately, I am very excited for what’s to come, and I intend to improve no matter what compared to my last speech I did in November.
