Eating. It's done (hopefully) nearly everyday for the average citizens. Now, in our current time, one does not realize just how many options that we have today, and how taste buds did not matter in times of peril, such as WWI where countries would literally attempt to starve the other country and weaken their military force in the War to End All Wars. But besides that, this past week I decided to take a look at sports nutrition, a major branch of sports medicine that is critical to enable not only success but also bring about peak performance in athletes. I came to learn that SNEI (sports nutrition education intervention) is not a joke of any sorts. It really does take a serious commitment to follow certain recommendations such as limiting carbohydrates or increasing protein intake, and it is important that we spread that education to our peers and our loved ones. Nutrition is critical for sports teams to be successful, as those who eat healthy will win in the long run, especially with increased stamina and other beneficial effects. Especially given the obesity epidemic that is ongoing today, with my prior interview with Dr. Barrington giving mention to how gruesome the impact has been, I ultimately came away with an increased notion and reminder to implement nutrition potentially into my work.
