This week was full of a number of firsts. I made it through my first tests in five classes I take out of six. I returned to the baseball field for my first practice since before Spring Break. And most importantly in the end, I successfully made it through my first week of in-person classes.
Here's the thing: that Monday feels like three weeks ago. And I can assure anyone that four tests in under 72 hours very easily leads to a loss of sleep. This entire week was really about doing something that benefits me either physically (sleep, little downtime) or mentally (study, complete assignments) in any given hour. But, like I said from last week, adapting to new situations and embracing change is a key quality to have in life, and it is especially important for the ISM program. This week, for ISM, I chose to embrace the differences of two topics. Interventional Radiology was my topic for my first research assessment, and for this week, in what was probably the only second, my second assessment went over the protocols behind disasters in Anesthesiology. I was highly surprised by the article I annotated, as I examined a 2018 article that goes over so much of what is standard today in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Relating to my journey, I determined the best way to move forward was to look at my ultimate intentions, and what each field I analyzed brings to my mindset and what hopes I could possibly have for the future. Ultimately, I feel as I am in a much better position than I was one week ago, and I hope to channel that energy, with a little more sleep this time, into furthering my interest and securing more answers for this journey.
